Oxidative Stress Core

Core Leader: Holly Van Remmen, PhD

The Oxidative Stress Core provides investigators with reliable and reproducible measures of oxidative damage to cellular components (DNA, lipid, and protein). The Core also offers important services to investigators as we employ the latest and most sensitive techniques using the most sophisticated technologies and equipment not readily available in the laboratories of individual investigators.

Core services include the following:
  • Measurement of F2-isoprostanes, a marker of lipid peroxidation in plasma, tissues, or urine by GC-MS
  • Measurement of oxidative damage to DNA using HPLC-based analysis of oxo-8dG
  • Measurement of oxidative damage to proteins using a novel fluorometric-based assay to detect protein carbonyls
