The San Antonio Cardiovascular Proteomics Center is funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to develop novel proteomic technologies to identify predictive markers of adverse remodeling of the left ventricle following myocardial infarction with a focus on extracellular matrix (ECM) fragment generation as a key initiating event.
The three major questions that the center will address:
a) How are ECM proteins differentially produced and proteolytically processed post-MI to temporally regulate the remodeling process?
b) What are the best standard operating procedures to measure ECM at the proteome level and screen the functional consequence of altered ECM levels post-MI?
c) Can ECM proteomics drive the development of better treatment strategies for the post-MI patient?
