My Research Interests:

My research interests include the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying insulin resistance and the progressive loss of skeletal muscle seen during aging (sarcopenia).

Why I’m Excited to Study Aging:

I am excited to study aging because it is a field which encompasses all of the systems, tissues, and cell types in the body. Because aging impacts every system in the body, we as aging researchers must study the entire organism instead of focusing on just one tissue or pathway. This is the one discipline which you can never truly become an expert. Aging research has the potential to positively impact the quality of life for those afflicted with aging related disorders including but not limited to diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, myocardial infarction, etc., which makes studying aging not only exciting but also meaningful.

My Future Goals:

I plan to obtain my PhD from UTHSCSA in the discipline of Aging biology, then have very productive and meaningful postdoc years, which will facilitate the acquisition of a faculty position at a university with a large aging research center!
